Youth Initiative

....At Least They're Not In A Gang....

We…..I mean….I Believe the children are our future.  I think that we should teach them well and let them lead the way. We should show them all the beauty that they possess inside….I’m wrong, Whitney Houston believed those things. I believe that if you hand a kid a book, you open up a whole new world filled with fantastic points of view….ok, that last line wasn’t mine either, but it’s true!! I view comics as a gateway drug to “real” books. It’s all about fostering a love of the written word! My long term goal for this site is to get kids reading again and if I can do that by first giving them a love of comics, all the better!! Stay tuned!!

I so agree. Trust me at first I thought reading a book is better until a discussion with my daughter’s teacher. She said as long as she is reading “something”, that is better than nothing. So I invested in tons of comic books for her and it improved her comprehension because I implemented writing assignments. It was a win for all. Thanks.

Thanks for chiming in Penny! There is definitely a stigma about comics that’s pretty unfair. When done well, they have just as much literary value as any “real” book. Hope they continue to pay dividends for you and your daughter!
